A Survivor

Your power over me has dissipated,
The last faint traces of the poison gas attack
Driven away by wind, drowned by rain.
“The truth will set you free.” And so it has.

The planet still spins on it’s axis,
The birds are still, for the most part, being birds.
I can still sleep and breathe, eat and shit.

And your deep religious concern
Is nothing more than a mild annoyance,
A puzzle I have no need to solve
That still gnaws at the scars on my lungs.

the end of religion
