What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Opening Salvo

Before we get started with the technical notes, I’d like to make a few things very clear.

  • This is a site about creativity and sharing ideas. This site is about connecting those ideas and that creative output with other people who may be interested in them.
  • No one on this site is interested in your personal information, or your “data”. If it turns out that someone connected with this site is interested in that kind of thing, their affiliation with this site will be ended.
  • Occasionally the topic of money may arise, but it won’t have to do with this site. There are many worthwhile charities that need resources to perform their functions, we may talk about that from time to time.
  • This site isn’t a marketing platform, there may be an occasional plug for something that costs money, but that isn’t what this site is about.
  • No one associated with this site will be interested in selling anything shared on this site. If that turns out not to be true, anyone who attempts to monetize this platform will have their association with this site ended.
  • The only data we keep will be your comments and posts, your user name, your password and the email address you associate with your account, as well as any personal information you choose to add to your account profile.
  • This site may get hacked, many sites do, so please, I’m begging you, use a unique password on this site, and not a password you use anywhere else.
  • You are not required, or expected, to use your real name when you register. The field that asks for your name is your “pretty” name that will be visible on your profile, comments and posts. In fact you are encouraged to use a pseudonym and not your real name.
  • Some of the ideas discussed here may be controversial. No site admin or operator can guarantee that comments and posts will not be traced back to the individual who authored them, so be wise with your words. Words can destroy careers and ruin lives.

Intellectual Property Rights

Anything submitted to this site is the intellectual property of the author. You have the right at any time to ask that anything you submitted be erased, and if it doesn’t break the site, or there are no other unforeseen consequences, we will move heaven and earth to make that happen.

No one associated with this site has any rights to anything creative submitted to this site, except for the original creator of that work. Having said that everyone should be aware that this site is indexed by search engines, and the contents of this site can likely be found on The Wayback Machine, so once something is submitted to this site it will likely not be possible to entirely erase it from the internet.

Cloudflare

You should be aware that the domain for this site is hosted on Cloudflare, you can find Cloudflare’s privacy policy here:

Search Engines

Search engines are what makes the web go round. This site has been SEO optimized, which hopefully means it will appear on search engines. Anything posted to this site could appear on search engines, which means it will be monetized and used to target and deliver advertising.

We love it, we hate it, and there’s not much we can do about it. Search engines are a necessary evil, we need to be able to find each other on the web. Every corporation that runs a search engine has a privacy policy and you can look those up, for all the good that will do you.

Comments

You must register to post comments. When you register you enter a user name, an email address and a password. We also collect your IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection and prevention.

Gravatar

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here:
